I was one of two students nominated by Scottsdale Community College (SCC), and selected for, the 2012 All-Arizona Academic Team, a most prestigious honor. Recipients are rewarded by the Arizona Board of Regents with the Academic Team Tuition Scholarship, a full-ride scholarship for students transferring to one of three state universities. I applied mine toward Arizona State University (ASU), accepted into ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and Barrett, The Honors College.
Students selected on this team have demonstrated “outstanding academic performance and service to the college and community,” according to the official description. My selection reflected my leadership within Phi Theta Kappa’s Psi Gamma chapter, dedication in developing the 9/11 10th Anniversary Tribute edition for SCC’s Scottsdale Chronicle, community service with the Arizona Animal Welfare League, other academic experiences and GPA. I attended the All-Arizona Academic Team Luncheon on February 22, 2012, where all of the recipients were awarded their honors. Julia Anglin, my friend and fellow Psi Gamma officer, was also selected on the All-Arizona Academic Team.
I was also nominated by SCC for the All-USA Community College Academic Team.
